Generally, if your baby has an infection, the doctor needs to first determine where the infection is located and whether or not it should be considered serious. Then, after a thorough check-up has been given, the doctor will probably prescribe penicillin. That penicillin should then be taken until it is gone. It is important to remember that when taking antibiotics, the entire dose has to be completed even if the symptoms seem to be gone. Your doctor will know how much medicine is needed in order to be sure your baby is free from infection. Remember that if you think your baby has an infection, it is very important to take them in and have their condition assessed to be sure it is not life-threatening.
